I'm on a tear

Today in the Parade Magazine supplement of the Sunday newspaper was an article titled: Preventing Breast Cancer by Dr. Ranit Mishori. I read the article with understandable interest and it really TICKED ME OFF! A report by the American Institute for Cancer Research confirmed that a healthy lifestyle has a positive impact on reducing a woman's risk of cancer. The report concludes "Women can cut their risk of breast cancer by almost half if they watch their weight, exercise daily, breast-feed their babies, and limit alcoholic beverages." It went on to state that "almost 40% of the breast cancer cases in the US could be prevented by making these changes." Well, thanks a lot, American Institute for Cancer! I did all those things. I weigh 4 pounds more than I did in college, walk 3-5 miles daily, breast-fed both Patrick and Lily, and rarely drink, and if I do it's generally a glass of white wine.

So I still lament: how did this happen and what more can I do to insure that it doesn't happen again? Come on American Institute for Cancer. Tell us: what can be done to prevent this horrible illness from altering any more lives?
