This last week I have been making note of all the times I hear the word love used in conversation: "Oh, I just love cashews!"
"Don't you love coffee?"
"I would love a nap."
"I love dogs."
"I would love a day off."
"I love email."
"I love you."
During my illness, I was surrounded by love. There was the love of science that my health care providers showed with their medical treatment and recommendations. There was the love of math showed by my radiation technicians. There was the love of cleanliness shown by friends who came and cleaned my house. There was the love of literature shown by reading friends who sent books, notes, and stories. There was the love of nutrition shown through the extensive "Meals on Wheels" gifts. Best of all, there was the love of me, Diane. This love was abundant and continuing and steadfast. This love wrapped itself around me and held me while I cried, slept, moaned, and vomited. It was given in waves of compassion and kindness. It came from family, friends, and co-workers near and far. Best of all, it was given to me, my dear husband, and my precious children.
As we approach Valentine's Day, remember to show love to others. Spread cheer, comfort, and kindness. Do not hold love so tightly that it has no ability to shine. It is through love that we best light the path on as we travel through life. Let your light illuminate the road ahead. A well-lit path is the easiest to follow.
Thank you for lighting my path. I love you.

I love you, too. I love your sense of humor and how you showed everyone how to get through a tough time with a positive attitude.
